Es werden heute vier verschiedene Varianten gezüchtet: der Toy Pudel (25 bis 29 cm) der Zwergpudel (28 bis 34 cm), der Kleinpudel (35 bis 44 cm) und der Groß-/Königspudel (45 bis 62 cm).
Der Pudel ist eine lebhafte und verspielte Rasse, die sich an alle Situationen gut anpassen kann. Er ist zudem äußerst intelligent und lässt sich mit großer Freude erziehen, was ihn zu einem guten Anfängerhund macht. Der treue Hund hält sich am liebsten in der Nähe seiner Zweibeiner auf und braucht einen direkten Familienanschluss.
